Dishcrawl Philly: A Taste of Midtown Village 3/6/12

Philly’s second Dishcrawl enjoyed lovely weather, wonderful company, and of course, delicious food. Both teams started the evening at Sampan for cocktails and some fabulous appetizers, including chicken satay, edamame dumplings, and a deconstructed cheesesteak crostini.

Then the teams split up and it was off to Farmer’s Cabinet and Fish! Farmer’s Cabinet was kind enough to give us their communal dining table where we enjoyed some of their incredible artisan cocktails and craft beers.

They served a house made Bavarian pretzel, house smoked charcuterie and butternut squash soup.

At Fish diners enjoyed fresh Chincoteague oysters, skate chips and various hor d’oeurves.

Dessert was provided by the lovely Melissa of the Cupcake Friday Project and was a huge hit! Mocha with salted caramel buttercream, vanilla with chocolate whiskey buttercream, and green tea with honey just to name a few.

It was a lovely evening full of wonderful company and fantastic food. It was lovely meeting all of you, and even seeing a few familiar faces from Northern Liberties! I hope to see you all again soon, until then keep in touch on Twitter.

Until we eat again,

Dishcrawl Hits Philly, Devours Northern Liberties January 24/12

Dishcrawl Philly’s first event was an absolute blast. The weather was absolutely perfect, the food was delicious, and we could not have hoped for better company (♥ you).

We kicked off the evening at the always fantastic Cantina Dos Segundos where we feasted upon some fabulous pork belly tacos, and crazy delicous tamarind barbecue seitan tacos. Margaritas were abundant, a clear favorite being the Winter Warmer with ginger, lime, and nutmeg.

Next it was on to Silk City! They were gracious enough to open their lounge to us and offered a truly amazing sneak peek of food soon to grace their menu. First out was a pork belly and sweet potato empanada, followed by hot sauce and honey glazed fried chicken with whipped mashed potatoes and bacon braised collard greens. The final plate was a classic reuben sandwich served with potato crisps.

We then made our way to the Blind Pig where chef David served up a classic pulled pork sandwich with slaw, a fresh vegetable spaeztle, and a crazy delicious alligator sausage crostini.

We closed the evening with fresh baked cookies from Brown Betty Dessert Boutique. And with full bellies and smiles on our faces, Philadelphia’s very first Dishcrawl disbanded. And we all lived happily ever after.

Oh, also this happened.

Thank you, random hipster balancing act guy for the live entertainment

I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone that helped make this event a smashing success! My helpers for this event were the lovely Diane Pizzuto, Jessica O’Neil, and our wonderful photographer Cassidy Baker. Without them this night really would not have been possible. You ladies rock.

And, of course, an extra special thank you to the absolutely amazing group of Dishcrawlers that joined us. I was floored by your enthusiasm and support and it was so incredible to get to meet and chat with so many of you. Seriously, you’re what this event possible and I cannot thank you enough for joining me in my foodnerdyness.

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for event updates and food related ramblings.

Until next time!

xo,

Michelle
